Dawn Watson Memorial Prize

I would love to share some exiting news!
I just found out today that I won THIRD PLACE in the Dawn Watson Memorial Prize for a poem i wrote called "Left Behind"

And here's what the judge, Sharon Berg, had to say about your poem:
3rd Prize

Left Behind – K. Jordan MacKenzie (Rinn Skyborn)

It isn’t like most of us know nothing about the damage done by a lover who leaves you, or the terror and hurt caused by a monster who violates you. If we haven’t been personally violated, we certainly know someone who has been. Most of us bury the pain under silence, but this Author puts into words what most of us have buttoned up about. The relationship between forgiveness and revenge is separated by a thinner wall than most of us dare contemplate. The language of this poem is brave and direct. It asks us to share witness of a violence most would not condone. The evil one human being can inflict upon another may be buried under layers of social training in most readers' experience, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. This Author aims to tear down the unchallenged denial of the perpetrator “because I am not the silence you expected...” and “all you did/ was teach me/ how powerful the living can become.”

This is a very personal poem to me that I took a long time to write, I have felt like I've lost my voice for a long time especially after a traumatic experience that left me with wounds.

I have also attached a copy of the poem for those of you who would like to read it.

Thank you to everyone who has thought of me, believed in me and have helped me survive when I couldn't even breathe.
